Ranking All My Gay Little Clothes

Happy pride, everyone! It may be clear to you that I have an affinity for rainbows. This is partially because I'm gay and partially because they make my eyes happy. Though I still have a very colorful wardrobe, Mo from the years 2016-2019 was on another level. Me leaving the house without at least one item of rainbow clothing on was a very uncommon occurrence. Up until the year 2021, I didn't own any black clothes other than one dress that I wore to funerals. In this post, I will be ranking my rainbow clothes from my favorite to least favorite. I was able to find photos of about 75% of the rainbow clothing I used to wear, which gives me a lot to work with.

1. Rainbow linen jacket/shirt

This is technically a shirt, but I exclusively wore it as a jacket. When I tell you I LOVED THIS SHIRT. I basically lived in this shirt that last two years of high school. I'm not a super sentimental person so I don't typically keep things for sentimental reasons, but I kept this shirt and I am very happy I did. I might even start wearing it out and about again because it just brings me an unmatched level of joy.

2. White rainbow striped sweater

This is one of the few items on this list that remains in my closet. I think it's super cute and I love the way it fits. Big fan of this sweater.

3. Rainbow checkered pants

I got these pants from Madewell. It's pretty hard to decipher their rainbow qualities from this photo, but just take my word for it, the little checks are rainbow. These were also the first pants that I purchased from Madewell and Madewell has become the only place that I buy pants new. I love the way they fit. I still have them. I still wear them. I still love them.

4. Knitted rainbow square sweater

I completely forgot about this sweater's existence until I was going through photos for this post, and now I am so bitter and pissed that I gave it away. LOOK AT IT. it is so cute and fun. I hope that someone came across it while thrifting and thought "What an amazing thrift find," and still wears it to this day. This sweater deserved so much better than I gave it. I am sorry to this sweater. :(

5. White rainbow polka-dot shirt

This is one of the more subtle rainbow pieces I had. It's pretty cute, I'd wear this now for sure. I wish I'd kept it, but not nearly as much as I wish I'd kept the last sweater.

IMG_5818.jpg

6. Rainbow checkered button-up

I made this shirt out of a men's button-up that I found while thrifting. I actually think it's super cute, but since I made it, it had quite a few structural issues. I like it though, 8/10.

IMG_5840.jpg

7. White rainbow striped tank top

As you will see on this list, I had quite a few rainbow striped tank tops, but this one was definitely my favorite. I wore it often in the summers. It was a good fit and length. I honestly might still have it, but I don't know.

8. Rainbow pinstripe prom dress

This is the prom dress I made in 2019. You can't see the details super well, but the top is a really lovely rainbow pinstriped cotton fabric. I actually love this dress, I think it slayed so hard. It may be the sewing project that I am most proud of. I still have it in my collection of gowns.

9. Grey rainbow striped sweater

This sweater is actually a hand-me-down from my mom's friend. She was getting rid of it and asked my mom if I'd want it cause she knew how much I love rainbows. Isn't that so sweet? I like this sweater a lot. It's super cozy. Truly its only flaw is that its rainbow qualities aren't giving gay.

10. Tie-dye short sleeve

I'm not much of a tie-dye girlie these days, but back in high school this was one of my favorite shirts. It got a lot of wear and a lot of love.

IMG_5863.JPG

11. "Love To All" pride shirt

This was my favorite of the pride shirts that I owned. I got this one from Madewell and listen, I know corporate pride is bad, BUT I didn't buy it in June, so at least they don't reserve all their gay shit for June. Madewell ally slay. I said what I said.

IMG_5858.jpg

12. White rainbow stripe crop-top

Here's the thing, you will see later that I had a shirt with an identical fabric to this shirt. I wore the other one wayyyyy more often. In fact, I didn't remember that I had this one until I saw the photo. I think the reason I almost never wore this one is because it's cropped and crop-tops did not used to be my vibe, but now that I'm looking at the photos, this shirt is way cuter than the other one.

IMG_5836.jpg

13. Tie-dye halter top

This was the other tie-dye t-shirt in my wardrobe back in the days of rainbow mo. I actually made this one. Like I didn't just tie-dye it, I sewed the shirt and then tie-dyed it. This one is cuter than the other tie-dye shirt, but the other one has more sentimental value which is why it's higher.

IMG_5846.jpg

14. Shiny rainbow sandals

I have had very few pairs of sandals that I've loved, and these ones are at the top of the list. I truly wore these shoes to death and I would get another pair if I could find them.

IMG_5815.jpg

15. Navy rainbow striped tank top

This shirt is very cute, it's subtle. Shockingly enough, the reason I got rid of it was because it was too dark and not colorful enough. It's not far though, I gave it to my sister.

IMG_5856.jpg

16. Rainbow ribbon jean skirt

I truly do not wear skirts. I always think I want to start wearing skirts and then I don't cause they're just not my thing. I think this skirt is very cute and fun though and I managed to get a little bit of wear out of it.

IMG_5839.jpg

17. White rainbow striped halter top

This is the shirt that I mentioned previously that is the exact same fabric, but less cute. I wore this one frequently and this photo of me was taken at my rainbow themed birthday party where everyone had to wear rainbow.

IMG_5816.jpg

18. Grey rainbow ribbon sweatpants

These sweatpants were so comfortable. I think they were Victoria Secret brand and they were just so cozy and cute. I must have gotten them stained, because I really don't think I'd get rid of them otherwise.

IMG_5825.jpg

19. Holographic sneakers

I can't capture how sick these shoes were in a photo. They were like one of those holographic pictures where if you look at it from a different angle, it changes. I have one of those holographic pictures and it shifts from Mary to Jesus and it's very cool. I didn't wear these shoes very often, because I'm short and like a tiny bit of height on my shoes.

IMG_5821.jpg

20. Autumnal rainbow sweater

I feel like some people might not even count this as a rainbow, but it has almost all the colors so I do. I remember this sweater being very soft, I wore it a lot in the fall. Also shout out to my gold docs, I love them and I miss them.

IMG_5817.jpg

21. Rainbow striped cotton pants

Truthfully, I almost never wore these pants and I think that's a shame, because they're pretty cute.

IMG_5830.jpg

22. Checkered rainbow windbreaker

At this point, I feel more or less neutral towards these clothes. This windbreaker was fine. It was decently cute and served its purpose.

IMG_5854.jpg

23. "Love > Hate" pride shirt

The second of my two pride shirts. I bought this one off a friend who was selling a bunch of stuff. I liked it and wore it a decent amount, but I'm a bit of a font snob and I didn't like the font.

IMG_5848.jpg

24. Pastel rainbow striped skirt

Again, I don't really wear skirts so I didn't get much wear out of this, but I think it is very fun.

IMG_5835.jpg
IMG_5837.jpg

25. Rainbow ribbon long sleeve shirt

This was just a long sleeve shirt that I found at a thrift store that I sewed rainbow ribbon to. And apparently I liked it enough to wear it in my senior photos. Slay.

IMG_5865.JPG

26. Rainbow stitching shirt

Another thrift store shirt DIY project. I added a pink scalloped edge and some rainbow stitches. I actually kind of love the concept, I just didn't wear it very often.

IMG_5855.jpg

27. Pastel rainbow striped jeans

These pants just never fit quite right.

IMG_5866.jpg

28. Rainbow maxi-dress

I'm honestly ashamed to say this, this photo of me in the fitting room trying this dress on was maybe the only time I ever wore it. It's so beautiful which is why I bought it, but I always think maxi-dresses look kinda weird on me.

IMG_5859.JPG

29. White rainbow striped short-sleeve

Listen, I wore this shirt a decent amount which makes me think I used to like it, but I do not like it at 22. The stripes weren't even, they were supposed to look like they were painted on, and honestly it's giving kindergarten teacher. ALSO WHY DOES MY FACE LOOK LIKE THAT IN THIS PHOTO. I think I was trying to look cool and it didn't work.

IMG_5857.jpg

30. Rainbow striped off the shoulder crop-top

This one is cute, but wasn't my style then and isn't my style now.

IMG_5832.jpg

31. White rainbow striped cardigan

This cardigan was so ill-fitting. Like I don't even understand how a cardigan could look so bad. This photo doesn't demonstrate how ugly I looked in it.

IMG_5853.jpg

32. Whatever the fuck this is

Hahahahahahahahahahaha. I made this to wear to my high school graduation. And I did wear it to graduation. I cannot believe I graduated in shorts that short smh.

IMG_5838.jpg

33. Holographic jacket

Love it in theory, hate it in practice. It was very itchy.

IMG_5851.JPG

34. Target kids rainbow leggings as a shirt

Hate it in theory, hate it in practice.

IMG_5850.JPG

35. Target kids rainbow leggings as leggings

These leggings were a size XL from the children's section of Target and I really feel like that's all you need to know.
